WHAT exactly does “Is it Christian to… …” or “Does it seem Christian to… …” really mean?

The day is almost over so let me take the time to say, Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers. I especially want to say it to the women in my life that were and still are like a sort of mother to me: Lori Grace, Edith Jordan-McCormick, Colleen Marie, Lorie Rienstra, and Kendra Parker- Rasmussen!!! You are all exceptionally great women and I Love You LOTS!!!

To my mother Sonya Lavern Gibson! You are never forgotten! So many beautiful things to remember about you that I never want to forget! Even the times you had to get me in line! You have made me the MAN I am today! Wish you were still here, but I know there is a good reason you aren’t. Rest Peacefully. Thank you for all of the wisdom you were able to engrave into me in the short 14 years you were given with me. I Love You & Miss You Dearly! Your son Tytus Larue James Gibson-Jackson!

Photographer Philip Karlberg has just created a unique shoot for Plaza Magazine, sculpting famous faces by simply using clever lighting and carefully arranged wooden pins. “A couple of months ago I came up with an idea I have had in mind for years. I just did not know what I could use it for. But then I did a test with sunglasses, and it really turned out great. So I sent an image with the test to Plaza Magazine, and a week later I started shooting. It was a real challenge to ‘sculpt’ the faces of some classic wearers of sunglasses. It took me 6 days to shoot the 6 faces, and around 1200 sticks were used.”

In his second year of neuroscience grad school, Greg Dunn was moonlighting with a different kind of experiment: blowing ink across pieces of paper. The neuron-like pattern it formed was instantly recognizable to him as a neuroscientist. “Ink spreads because it wants to go in the direction of less resistance, and that’s probably also the case of when branches grow or neurons grow,” he says. “The reason the technique works really well is because it’s directly related to how neurons are actually behaving.”

Dunn calls this the “fractal solution to the universe,” which he sees as the “fundamental beauty of nature.” He’s fascinated that this branching pattern holds true across orders of magnitude, whether that’s nanometers for neurons, centimeters for ink, or meters for a tree branch.

Since graduating with his PhD last fall, Dunn has continued to spend his days with neurons—big, golden ones ten thousand times the size of neurons in your brain. The former University of Pennsylvania grad student now creates paintings of neurons for a living.
